What we do
We provide design and engineering services for things that are typically manufactured in factories, using industrial processes.
Our main expertise is with metals, but we also work with plastics, timber, and other materials.
Have a look at the projects listed below, to get a better idea of what we have done, and whether you think we could help you on your next project. Contact us, and let's talk.
How we work
For some projects we work from the initial idea and see it through to production, but for others we just get involved at certain points.
Sometimes this is at the start, to help answer the big questions and set the right direction, and sometimes towards the end to help with the fine detail.
Every project is different, every client is different, and it is important to find the right fit between everyone.
Tools we use
3D modelling
All our designs are modelled in 3D which largely eliminates issues of parts not fitting together, and it also generates automatic part quantities, which is critical for efficient procurement and inventory.
3D files are needed for manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, injection moulding, and rapid prototying. They are also used for 2D profile cutting of sheet and plate materials, such as sheet-metal, plywood, and plastics.
Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
FEA is a computer simulation tool. It can be used to simulate various loads and forces on a 3D or 2D model. It is complex, but but is generally less-expensive than building and testing physical prototypes.
FEA can be a useful tool for cross-checking traditional calculations, and as a way to analyse complex models or forces, that cannot be easily calculated using traditional methods.
Who we help
Inventors to take their ideas forward, from the first inspiration, through design, prototype, and ultimately production.
Manufacturers to design in-house products that suit their capabilities and infrastructure.
Existing product producers to improve their designs, and to work on new designs as market opportunities appear
Organisations who have a need for a new product for themselves but either have no experience in designing or manufacture, might have lost those in-house skills, or just need some extra resources. Some examples include a range of government agencies, railways, and sporting organisations.
Nothing beats a face to face meeting, but much can be done online. We've been working remotely with clients for more than 20 years. We even have some long term customers who we have never met..!
So it doesn't really matter if you are in the next street, the next city, or the next country.
